Dream (Telugu) (Award Winner)
Dream (Telugu: డ్రీమ్ ) is a 2012 Telugu. psychological thriller film. The movie is a little too cerebral and is made with a sensibility thats not Tollywood, so try this only if you have a taste for the unusual. The novel point of experimenting with a Dream by itself makes this venture disconnected from general audience. Educating the viewer on Dreams is a subjective matter of science. May be, we will praise this kind of demiurgic thoughts if presented by a Hollywood technician or a Bollywood director.

The film won Royal Reel Award at the Canada International Film Festival and has also garnered selection at the New York City International Film Festival.

Dream released to positive reviews and is known to be a completely different kind of movie introduced for the first time in 60 years of Telugu movie industry. The preview show to directors, producers and movie artists of Telugu movie industry has got critical acclaim from many of the top movie industry stalwarts for both the Debutant Director and the Producers of the movie. Recently, Dream movie and its crew are getting international recognization after getting selected in early International Film festivals of 2013 like Canada International Film Festival.

More importantly the filmmaker seeks to do it without resorting to melodrama. There are no unnecessary songs, forced comic interjections and over the top background score either. Instead the filmmaker relies instead on clever use of color, lighting, camera techniques and a visual grammar that we associate with French and German cinema. For that alone he deserves a pat on the back, considering it is his first film. It will be interesting to see what he will make next though for conventional wisdom suggest that this one might not exactly ring in the cash registers at the BO.

The writing is simple but effective and Rajendra Prasad tends to go over the top in a few instances, but that doesn't take away anything from his performance which is pretty good.  The movie seeks to engage your intellect rather than carnal emotions, so depends on what you will go looking to the theatre. One thing's for sure it is different and really so for a change.

The story runs around a retired Army officer who did not get to fight the Kargil war. He now lives with his wife in an upscale, gated community spending most of his time playing war video games. The hero suffers from hypnagogia, a rare medical disorder. He starts dreaming and believes that his dreams are real. The filmmaker genuinely attempts to give us a peek into the world of a man who can't tell a dream from reality.

There is a story running in his dream and another in his real life. In a particular stage he fails to see the demarcation and these subconscious thoughts play havoc in his life and the people around him. Dream is this journey into the mind of the protagonist. This is a Medical thriller film.

He's pessimistic and is convinced that he will die at 52 and wants to do something really thrilling before he dies. He lives in a plush gated community with his wife. A compulsive thrill seeker, he smokes pot, has an AK-47 tattoo, loves Jim Morrison, and fancies his teenaged neighbor. His biggest regret in life is that he's never used a gun in all his life and that he might die without ever using it so he derives substitute gratification from playing combat video games.

It is known that the Telugu audience has a tendency to say great things about Hollywood psychological thrillers though they partly understand. It is an affinity towards the foreign stuff. Similarly if someone from native land attempts, they mock at him with a preconceived notion that our minds cannot match with that of abroad. But ‘Dream’ is a film that should be patted. It has film festival material in it.
