Director Thirumurugan's 'Metti Oli' set new trends in the corpus of mega serials on television. His first film Em Magan brought forth the concerns of a father-son relationship with precision and empathy. His latest offering Muniyandi.. reiterates the significance of father-son relationship; in addition, there is a gentle touch of love and action that stands out in the film.

Bharath has taken up yet another different role in Muniyandi. After Nepaali, we get to see him as the hero in a promising and different storyline. Though the role is clichéd, Bharath offers his best without disrupting its design, also adding a refreshing touch of his own. Newcomer Poorna too does not disappoint. Ponvannan's performance as the affectionate father is first-rate. Director L. Raja's villainy too makes a mark. Vadivelu is featured as the college attender who also works as a part-time exorcist. Vadivelu's comedy is of course effective and lightens the mood. Vaithi's camera travels along with the story. Vairamuthu's words are adorned by Vidyasagar's melodious tunes.

With a story and characterization that remains yoked to tradition and family values, Thirumurugan has hit the jackpot once again. Within enjoyable limits, the director has tried to illuminate the tools and craft of filmmaking. Using them effectively, he has presented a touching tale. His stories are enchanting and are almost always absorbing. Muniyandi Vilangiyal Moondramandu aptly fills the bill.
