In the quest of who will lead the family owned party when the party leader, the eldest of the family gets a stroke, Samar Pratap(Ranbir), a PhD scholar and the youngest who has no plans to enter politics is forced into it after a cruel assassination in his family. The tussle for power becomes a free for all within the family, with even blood relations being forgotten for power. Conspiracies are hatched and countered by the day and Samar realizes that reconciliation and fighting as a united party is a non-existent possibility. And Samar, with his brains splits the empire and launches a new party, guided by Brij Gopal(Nana) with plans of bringing his elder brother Prithviraj(Arjun Rampal) to power. The parent party is now in the hands of the now paralysed leader’s son Virendra (Manoj Bajpai) and he is now fighting with a new found firebrand youngster who is portrayed as the leader of the Dalits and other minorities; Suraj (Ajay Devgon).

Performances from the ensemble cast are near to perfect. The movie does not belong to a single person but Ranbir, Nana and Arjun just blow you away, near perfect performances with Nana achieving cent percent. Katrina Kaif has given a subdued performance though her sudden love towards Arjun is not properly justified. Ajay Devgon maintains single minded intensity throughout; exactly what the character demanded.
