Aditya Chopra seems to have mastered the technique of doing the remakes of Hollywood flicks and minting money by packaging them successfully. Salaam Namaste is no exception. This film is a bland rip-off of British comedy flick Nine Months (Hugh Grant & Julianne Moore - 1995). Hmm… it took 10 years to copy that film in India. Does the living-in concept work in Indian backdrop? No! Because Indian society tend to attach social stigma to it and people start living for the society than themselves. Hence, he created the characters as NRI's settled in Australia with no attachment towards their family members and parents. Let us go into the details of basic storyline now -

Nikhil Arora (Saif Ali Khan) hates his parents for naming him so. He is more interested in recipes than the engineering school in Australia his father forced him to go. He becomes an architect by academics, but his heart belongs to cooking. In no time, he changed his name as Nick in stead of Nikhil Arora and joins as chief cook in a restaurant called 'Nick in Time'. He loves to be called as Nick!

Amber Malhotra (Preoty Zinta) escapes from routine life in Bangalore and is on hot pursuit in completing her medicine in Melbourne. She does not have enough money to lead a comfortable life, hence joins as radio jockey for an Indian program called 'Salaam | Namaste' where she interviews Indian accomplishers living in Australia.
