What is so special about Rare Edition Rangam DVD? High bitrate encoding is a very good indicator for quality. It's all about bitrate: How much data is packed into a file, described as bits per second. Generally speaking, a higher bitrate translates into higher quality audio and video. DTS Track on Rare Edition Rangam DVD is encoded at highest bitrate (1509.75 kbps or 1.5 mbps) while regular Telugu DVDs were almost always encoded at a reduced bitrate of 754.5 kbit/s. When the DTS audio track is encoded at its highest legal bitrate (1509.75 kbit/s), technical experts rank DTS as perceptually transparent for most audio program material (i.e., indistinguishable to the uncoded source in a double blind test). Video on this Rare Edition Rangam DVD is encoded at constant highest bitrate of 8 mbps while Video on regular DVDs is encoded either with variable bit rate or lesser constant bitrate. Why 2-Disc? Why cant it be a single Disc? Uncompressed DTS on this Rare Edition DVD requires more than double the space occuped by reduced bitrate DTS track on the regular DVDs. Video is encoded at the constant high bitrate irrespective of graphics or motion on the scene. With both of these merits, it requires 2 Discs for a movie with 2.5 hours duration. Rangam DVD: Rare Features: (Disc-1: First Half of the movie until interval, Disc-2: Second Half of the movie)
